Program Description:
Grants are available to students who are participants in the PASSPORT TO SUCCESS program and who are participating in a Lehigh approved study abroad program (includes all Lehigh study abroad and some partner programs); email inpass@lehigh.edu if you are unsure if your program is approved.  This application mirrors the nationally competitive Gilman Scholarship application. Students will be able to use the same essay to apply to Gilman and the Passport Program grants.  Students should utilize the Writing Center to support the essay requirements below.


GRANT APPLICATION
The application process includes 4 items:
  • Application Form
  • Statement of Purpose Essay (details below) 
  • Community Impact Essay (details below)
  • Copy of unofficial LU transcript
Review of applications will consider quality of essay, student motivation for participating in the summer program, student goals for the selected program, and financial need level.   Students must be in good academic, disciplinary, and financial standing with Lehigh in order to receive grant funding.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE ESSAY
Please address all of the following questions, in no particular order (max of 7,000 characters):
How will studying or interning abroad help you achieve your future academic or professional goals?
Why did you select your specific program and host country?
How are you academically prepared to be a successful scholar abroad? If you have faced significant academic difficulties, tell us about those and how you are overcoming them.
What examples of knowledge, skills, and experiences will you draw on to meet the challenges of going abroad?

COMMUNITY IMPACT ESSAY (max 3000 characters)
How will you represent and share what it means to be an an American study abroad student  during your program? How will you seek opportunities to become more culturally engaged and have meaningful interactions with people and cultures different from your own during your abroad program?

Follow-on Service Project Proposal
The Follow-on Service Project Proposal (max of 3,000 characters) is your chance to explain how you will give back by inspiring others to pursue their own high-impact experiences. To help expand the impact of the PASSPORT TO SUCCESS program, recipients are required to carry out a Follow-on Service Project upon completion of their program that helps to promote global experiences and the Passport to Success program. Some key points to keep in mind are:

What is your project and how will it increase awareness of study abroad  among your peers in your home or campus community?
Identify and explain why you chose the specific community you will be reaching.
How will you integrate the impact of your experience abroad into your project?
With which campus departments, student organizations, or community organizations will you collaborate?
