Temple University, Japan Campus Study Abroad Programs

The Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ), study abroad program offers U.S. undergraduates the opportunity to study in Tokyo for a semester, full academic year, or summer. You may choose from a broad range of courses, including several focusing on Asia, and will study alongside bilingual Japanese students, who comprise about 40 percent of the student body, and with TUJ's international students from over 60 countries around the world.


ACADEMICS

A wide range of courses are available; here they are categorized into five broader areas of study:

    Many Asian Studies courses are cross-listed with other disciplines such as:

ELIGIBILITY

Eligibility is limited to students who:

  • are currently enrolled as full-time, matriculated undergraduate students at a U.S. institution and will have completed at least two semesters of college-level study with a satisfactory scholastic average (minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale from all colleges and universities attended).
  • intend a full-time program of study at Temple University, Japan Campus, and will be applying credits earned toward a degree.
  • are not on academic or disciplinary probation or warning.

We welcome the participation of qualified students from all U.S. colleges and universities.

Students will be selected mainly on the basis of their intellectual purpose and emotional maturity.


PROGRAM SERVICES

Pre-departure Materials

Once accepted, we provide you with detailed pre-departure materials designed to guide you in preparing yourself for your time in Japan. Pre-departure materials include:

  • Course registration materials

  • Passport information and visa application instructions

  • Travel and arrival information

  • Insurance information

  • Health and safety information

  • Housing information

  • Billing document, containing confirmed tuition and program fees, and payment policies

  • Cultural information

Orientation Programs
Our staff hosts an orientation at Temple's Main Campus in Philadelphia during the semester prior to your departure. An on-site orientation is conducted in Tokyo during the first several days of the program.


Housing

Housing options include:

  • Program-arranged dorms and apartments
  • Program-arranged homestays available for selected students, with priority given to those with prior study of the Japanese language

  • Independent housing
