Introduction
As Spain’s oldest and largest technical university, the UPM has more than 35,000 students training in a broad spectrum of disciplines, covering most engineering disciplines and information and communication technologies, but also stretching to sports science, architecture and fashion design. Its demanding programs improve the employment prospects of its graduates, also boosted by the institution’s close ties with the business world.
A pacesetter of engineering education in Spain, the UPM has highly reputed professors in their fields of specialization. The teaching experience of its approximately 3,000 faculty is enhanced by educational innovation techniques that further the quality of our students’ training. Internationalization is one of the mainstays of the UPM’s programs, which are designed to attract students and professors from other countries.
In the style of the French Grandes Écoles, UPM has 18 schools and faculties, some dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries. The schools are spread across four campuses (Madrid, City Centre, Moncloa Campus, Montegancedo, South Campus) and specialize in different areas of engineering and technology, including aerospace engineering, agroforestry and environmental engineering, biotechnology and biomedical engineering, civil engineering and sustainability, information and communication technologies, organizational engineering, industrial engineering, physical, chemical, and geological sciences. UPM schools award four- and five-year undergraduate degrees, and one- and two-year master's degrees.
The International office at each school provides guidance for students and is responsible for academic matters relating to both UPM and international mobility students.

Eligibility Requirements
- Students should have the equivalent of a 2.5 on a 4.0 GPA grade scale.
- Students must be beyond their second year of study during the exchange period.
Language of Instruction
Spanish and English (a limited number of undergraduate courses are available in English)
Study Period
One to two semester academic courses and/or one-semester bachelor or master's project.
Research projects and work experience program - Graduation projects are possible for both undergraduate and graduate students provided a suitable supervisor can be found.
Company internships up to 20 hours a week are possible for international students registered at UPM.

Estimated Cost of Living
The approximate monthly cost of living in Madrid ranges from 600 to 900 euros (accommodation and food), taking into account that this will depend on the cost of your accommodation. As an example, sharing a rented apartment will cost around 400 euros (accommodation only).

Madrid, the capital of Spain and of the Community of Madrid, is in the geographical center of the country. With a population of almost 6.5 million in the metropolitan area, it is considered to be Spain’s largest city and the third largest urban area in the European Union. As the capital of the country, Madrid is the seat of the country's government and parliament and accommodates the main departments of the central public administration. It is also the official place of residence of the Spanish royal family.
In terms of the economy, Madrid is noted for being a major financial and industrial center, home to the head offices of numerous Spanish companies and several of the world’s largest corporations. Madrid is known for its high level of cultural and artistic activity. Its internationally renowned museums include the Prado Art Museum, the Thyssen Bornemisza Art Museum and the Queen Sofia National Art Museum.
